Oedipus Rex: Pause and Reflect

1. I think that Oedipus is a good leader. He doesn't want to leave anyone behind and he wants to keep everyone informed. He wants for himself and others to be cured of the plague.

2. The plague on the city is started because of a murder. The murder in which trigered this plague was the one of King Laius whom was once a leader. He was killed by a band of thevies.

3. The town of Thebes is full of terror. The words that are describing how they feel with the crying and the dread. They are dicussing birth and talking about the livliness of a voice. The talk of grief and and ruins also made me believe that the town of Thebes is a city of death.

4. The curse that Oedipus put on the killer of Laius is the he will be banished, never sheltered, never spoken to, and he will never be a partner in our prayers. The holy water will never touch his hands.

5. Tiresias named Oedipus as the murder of Laius.

6. Oedipus learned that his father had died from an illness not by him.

7. It came about that Oedipus was raised as Polybus' son because the messenger told him.

8. Oedipus discovered that at birth he was given up for someone else to care for him.

9. Oedipus blinded himself by stabbing himself in the eyes with a a large pin. He did this because he has found out the whole truth about his entire life. Now he is completly full of greif and is completly in shock and can't go on.

Thinking Through:
1. Oedipus sends for Tiresias because he is the master of mysteries of life.

2. I think the chours is upset with him because they just found out that he could possible be the murderer of Laius and instead of taking the blame he is trying to put the murder on someone else.

3. He is so determined because he wants to be able to place the blame on someone since others believe that he is the murderer.

4. The sheperd had given the baby to someone else.

5. Oedipus is regarded as a man of misery by the chorus.

6. Oedipus did everything that the oraclee said he would do. The profecies were true.

7. Oedipus will probably try and leave from where ever he is. He can't leave his girls which are his daughtes/sisters.
